EPE Foam: Limitations & Material Selection Guidelines

Contraindicated Applications: Do not specify EPE for: (1) continuous operating temperatures >75°C; (2) long-distance heavy-duty transit with sustained dynamic loading; (3) high-impact or structural load-bearing applications (EPP is recommended); (4) prolonged UV/outdoor exposure; or (5) cyclic compression/rebound demands exceeding EPE’s elastic limit. For EU-regulated markets, confirm compliance with applicable standards (e.g., REACH, EN 13432) prior to specification.
Selection Principle: Material qualification must be based on a validated assessment of operational environment, mechanical performance criteria, and regulatory obligations — never on default assumption or historical precedent.
