Its key advantages include excellent shock absorption and energy dissipation, as well as shape-memory recovery, enabling it to withstand repeated impacts without failure; it has a low density but high specific strength, significantly reducing weight; it has a wide temperature resistance range (–40 °C to 130 °C), is resistant to oils and chemicals, and has an extremely low water absorption rate; furthermore, it is 100 per cent recyclable, non-toxic and odourless, aligning with trends towards green manufacturing and carbon neutrality, whilst also offering good sound and thermal insulation properties. |

| The main drawbacks lie in the relatively high costs of raw materials and moulds, making it unsuitable for single-use, low-value packaging; the surface is relatively soft and prone to scratching, often requiring an additional protective coating; the steam-moulding process is complex, with a long development cycle and high minimum order quantity thresholds; furthermore, the non-polar surface makes bonding and printing difficult, and controlling dimensional shrinkage is more challenging than with traditional foam, placing higher demands on design and manufacturing precision. |
