PET offers high transparency, good toughness and is environmentally friendly and recyclable; it is currently the mainstream choice for high-end electronic, cosmetics and food packaging.
PVC is low-cost and easy to heat-seal, and is commonly used for packaging standard hardware and stationery; however, as it emits harmful gases when burnt, it is gradually being replaced by PET.
PS is lightweight and easy to mould, but lacks toughness and is prone to breakage; it is mostly used for disposable food containers, low-end electronic trays and flocked liners.
PP is heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant and complies with food-grade safety standards; it is suitable for food heating containers, medical supplies and the handling of chemical components.
Functionally modified materials include anti-static/conductive materials containing anti-static agents, as well as flocked materials with a velvety surface; these are used respectively for the protection of precision electronics and to enhance the texture of gift items and jewellery.

| The main drawbacks of thermoformed trays include: limited material strength, with poor resistance to compression and impact, making them unsuitable for the long-distance transport of heavy or sharp items; certain materials, such as PVC, emit harmful gases when burnt, resulting in poor environmental performance; generally inadequate heat resistance (with the exception of PP), making them unsuitable for high-temperature environments; surfaces are prone to static electricity, which attracts dust, and highly transparent materials are prone to showing scratches, affecting their appearance; Furthermore, the cost of customising moulds is relatively high, resulting in a high unit price for small-batch production; moreover, the recycling and reuse system remains underdeveloped, leading to a low actual recycling rate. |
